Piazza dei Signori

Piazza dei Signori is the heart of Treviso and the main location of its most important historical events. Dominating the square is the Palazzo dei Trecento, built in 1185 in order to host assemblies of the region's most prominent delegates. It owes its name to the supreme civic meeting of 300 members that took place there: the Maggior Consiglio di Treviso.

Antique coats of arms and frescos from diverse periods decorate the walls of an enormous internal room designed to host delegation members. The Guelph merlons that cover the Prefecture, the Civic Tower and the Palazzo today were introduced only after the Second World War bombardments, in order to replace the Ghibelline merlons that had crowned the structure since the beginning of the Xth Century.

Ca' dei Carraresi

Ca’ dei Carraresi is the name attributed to this Treviso house, wrongly considered the medieval dwelling of the noble Da Carrara family. The building was really a headquarters of the family's officials and soldiers, and earned its name from the coat of arms fixed on the facade in order to indicate its function as a hospicium.

According to some medieval texts, by the end of the XIVth Century Ca' dei Carraresi was known as "Osteria alla Croce" due to the name of the tavern and hostel that were inside. Adjacent to the house, though less renowned, is Casa Brittoni, which in 1396 was bought by Giovanni Berton, manager of the same hostel at that time. The internal walls of both houses are covered with the remains of medieval frescos, including the "Madonna con il Bambino", which dates from 1400.

Ca' dei Carraresi, an illustrious scene in the city of Treviso, hosts international shows, conventions and exhibits every year.

Loggia dei Cavalieri

The Loggia dei Cavalieri is a unique building in Europe. It was originally built during the second half of the XIIIth Century, in the Treviso podestà of Andrea da Perugia. Exclusively reserved for the noble class, it was used to host their social games during the hot weather season, at least until December 13, 1388, when the city was taken by Venice.

From that moment on, the Loggia was slowly but surely ruined until it became first a timber and barrels deposit, and then a coffin resell store. Today, we can admire it in all its beauty thanks to Abbot Luigi Bailo, one of the most important admirers and guardians of the historical and artistic heritage of Treviso, who managed many times to save the building from demolition.
